Pre-Treatment
& Aftercare
Supporting Your Recovery -
Every treatment continues long after you leave the clinic.
Recovery Is Part Of The Treatment
Every treatment extends beyond the time spent in the clinic.
Healing, collagen remodelling and barrier restoration continue well beyond your appointment. Following the appropriate pre-treatment and aftercare recommendations helps support recovery, optimise treatment outcomes and minimise unnecessary complications.
The guidance below provides general information for the treatments offered at Aesthete. Your clinician may provide personalised instructions where additional recommendations are required.
Aesthetic Medicine
Your consultation is an important part of treatment planning. To support the safest possible treatment and minimise unnecessary bruising or swelling, please advise your clinician of any recent illness, dental treatment, vaccinations, medications or changes to your health prior to your appointment.
- Arrive with clean skin where possible.
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior to treatment.
- Where medically appropriate, avoid non-essential anti-inflammatory medications or supplements known to increase bruising. Never cease prescribed medication without medical advice.
- Advise your clinician if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have recently undergone dental treatment, vaccination, cosmetic procedures elsewhere or are planning an overseas trip within the next 14days. (We may not be able to proceed with treatment due to these circumstances)
- Notify us if you develop a cold sore, infection or become unwell before your appointment.
Mild redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising are common following aesthetic medical treatments and usually settle over the following days.
- Avoid touching or massaging the treated area unless specifically instructed by your clinician.
- Keep the treatment area clean and avoid applying makeup for approximately four hours unless advised otherwise.
- Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, excessive heat and swimming for the first 24 hours.
- Sleep with your head slightly elevated on the first night where possible.
- Continue following any personalised instructions provided during your consultation.
- If you experience unexpected swelling, increasing pain or have concerns about your recovery, please contact our clinic.
Laser & Energy-Based Treatments
Laser treatments rely on healthy skin and careful treatment planning. Recent sun exposure, fake tan, active skin irritation or certain medications may affect your suitability for treatment.
- Avoid excessive sun exposure before treatment.
- Remove fake tan before your appointment.
- Avoid waxing or unnecessary skin irritation immediately before treatment.
- Inform your clinician of any medications, recent illness or changes to your health.
- Continue using your prescribed skincare unless advised otherwise.
Recovery varies according to the technology used, treatment intensity and your individual skin response.
- Temporary redness, warmth and mild swelling are common following treatment.
- Avoid excessive heat, vigorous exercise and swimming for the first 24–48 hours where advised.
- Use a gentle cleanser and moisturiser until the skin feels comfortable.
- Avoid active ingredients including retinoids, exfoliating acids and vitamin A until advised by your clinician.
- Daily broad-spectrum SPF50+ sun protection is essential throughout recovery.
- Pigmented lesions may temporarily darken before naturally shedding.
- Continue following your personalised treatment plan and review schedule.
Clinical Skin Treatments
Healthy skin responds best when the skin barrier is functioning well. Your clinician will recommend any temporary adjustments to your skincare routine prior to treatment.
- Arrive with clean skin where possible.
- Avoid excessive sun exposure before treatment.
- Inform your clinician of any active skin infection, irritation or recent cosmetic treatments.
- Bring your current skincare products if requested.
Supporting the skin barrier during recovery is an important part of achieving the best possible outcome.
- Temporary redness, sensitivity or mild dryness may occur.
- Keep skincare minimal during the initial recovery period.
- Avoid exfoliation, active ingredients and unnecessary irritation until advised.
- Protect the skin with daily SPF50+ sunscreen.
- Follow the personalised homecare recommendations provided by your clinician.
- Contact us if you experience prolonged irritation or unexpected concerns.
Restorative Wellness Programs
Please arrive 10–15 minutes before your appointment to allow time to settle into the environment before your treatment begins.
Comfortable clothing is recommended. Depending on your treatment, you may be asked to change into a treatment robe.
Please advise your practitioner of any recent illness, injury, pregnancy, surgery or changes to your health prior to your appointment so your treatment can be adapted where appropriate.
Restorative Wellness is designed to support long-term wellbeing rather than a single appointment. Your practitioner may recommend ongoing treatment intervals, home practices or complementary services to support your overall health objectives.
When To Contact Us
While mild redness, swelling, tenderness and sensitivity can be a normal part of recovery, we encourage you to contact our team if you have any concerns about your progress.
